Our book recommendation for this quarter is the newest book by Brené Brown, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of Human Experience. In this book, Brown “unpacks the complex web of emotion, behavior, and thoughts that are triggered by our experiences, and gives us the nuanced language to fully understand our feelings and express them to others.” As we know, our work is so much about emotions and how to help children find best ways to express them—yet the work always starts with us. To paraphrase Becky Bailey, “We can’t offer to children what we don’t possess for ourselves.” Brown has so many books worth doing a study about—most recently I am working with a program doing a study of Dare to Lead: Brave Work, Tough Conversations, Whole Hearts. We can help lead a book study in your group—contact us for more information.
